Getting Government Support for your Home Care Need

Info on Government SupportFinancial Assistance – how can i get it?
Home Care services are designed to help anyone who needs support at home, doing activities they normally engage in, but are now unable to do themselves due to frailty, disability or illness. The popular notion that a home care service is only for the privileged few is wrong. If you have limited financial means to fund the cost of a home care service, you can seek help from the Government.

Australia has many programs in place to assist individuals who are not able to afford this service privately, who need extra help in personal care and other personal support requirements whilst they stay in their own home. Each of these programs or packages have broad eligibility criteria and an assessment process to determine how much and what type of help you will need. The requirements vary depending on the type of service you need. Don’t be intimidated about the idea of an assessment. It’s just a way of finding out what’s best for you.

Get assessed to see if you’re eligible for a subsidised home care service by speaking to your doctor, contacting your local Carelink Centre by calling 1800 052 222 or view their website at www.commcarelink.health.gov.au. Either will be able to advise you of appropriate steps to take and the Carelink Centre can advise of services and provide information on which services are funded or non-funded.

Those who require aged care may contact Gateway for Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or view their website at www.myagedcare.gov.au. Gateway for Aged Care will advise you on packages of care, eligibility and which organisations have care available.

If you require disability services contact Family and Community Services on (02) 9377 600 or view their website at www.facs.nsw.gov.au. They will be able to give you some direction, as the National Disability Insurance Scheme is currently only operating in certain areas.

Don’t deprive yourself of an opportunity to become more independent at home and in the community. Contact us to find out more on how to start receiving help at home.
