July NDIS Update

From 19 May 2025, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) introduced new funding periods for new and reassessed plans, stating that the funding periods “will usually be set at three-months”. Previously, most participants could access all of their funding at the start of their 12 month plan.

Changes to the NDIS Act introduced funding periods in October 2024 as a part of the efforts to stop participants from overspending their allocated budgets. Funding periods don’t change the total amount of funding in a participant’s plan, only when the funding becomes available for use. Unspent funds will roll-over between the first and fourth quarters, but not into the next plan, so participants need to budget for each 12 month plan period.

Following the release of the annual NDIS Pricing Review, you may want to check if any of the services you receive are subject to new fee limits For instance, you may find some allied therapies are now cheaper as the review found that NDIS participants were being overcharged for some items compared with people who aren’t fundèd by the NDIS were being charged.
